A Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office deputy found himself on the other side of the law after being accused of sexually harassing a 19-year-old woman during a traffic stop.

Deputy Jorge Javier Cagigal appeared before a judge at the Hidalgo County Jail on Wednesday afternoon.

Sheriff Lupe Trevio told reporters that Cagigal is accused of official oppression and tampering with physical evidence.

Investigators allege that Cagigal sexually harassed a 19-year-old woman during a recent traffic stop.

Cagigal is accused of showing the woman a condom and moving her hand towards him.

The deputy allegedly tried to cover up the crime by allowing his dashcam to run out.

According to Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education (TCLEOSE), Cagigal began his career with the Combes Police Department back in February 1993.

Cagigal began his employment with the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office back in November 2003.

The records show no prior disclinary actions against Cagigal were reported to TCLEOSE.
