Hidden camera exposes alarming restaurant health code violations
Thu, 24 Apr 2014 04:23:42 GMT —
The shocking video is reportedly from inside a restaurant's walk in cooler.
The amateur recording, sent exclusively to the Food Patrol, captures what appears to be a number of health code violations at Morado's restaurant on 1610 North 23rd Street in McAllen.
It shows food boxes on the floor, uncovered food, foods not labeled and cross-contamination concerns.
The video sparked an immediate inspection by the McAllen Health Department after a call from the Food Patrol about it.
The restaurant scored 19 demerits and received a citation from the city for no certified food manager on duty just last week.
Health report violations back up the troubling finds on hidden camera.
There's a cross-contamination of beef over produce.
Foods aren't labeled.
There's even a note that indicates how an avocado is found rotting in the fridge.
The Food Patrol wants answers.
Action 4's Ryan Wolf showed the video to owner Blanca Rodriguez and her daughter also named Blanca.
"How does that make you feel to see this video sent to me?" Ryan asked.
"I don't know how to feel," the owner said. "I don't know who took the video."
Blanca's daughter is more direct.
"That's kind of mean," she said.
"Why do you think that's mean?" Ryan asked. "Don't you think they're just looking out for the safety ofcustomers?"
"True," she said. "But why would they send it to you so the whole world can see?"
