'High-end' marijuana in shoe leads to felony charge

A man is behind bars after he was allegedly driving after he smoked high-end marijuana.

Ramos Villarreal III was arrested by authorities after he was pulled over for a defective head light in Brownsville.

He was stopped at the intersection of University Boulevard and U.S. 77.

A probable cause affidavit obtained by Action 4 News states the trooper smelled marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.

He also noticed the driver's eyes were pink and watery.

Documents say Villarreal admitted to smoking "hydro", which is known to have a high percentage of THC.

A search of the vehicle was conducted, and authorizes did not find marijuana inside.

He was placed under arrest and transported to the Cameron County Jail.

While at the jail, a glass jar with marijuana fell out from his right shoe.

He was then charged with smuggling prohibited substances into a correctional facility, a third degree felony.

He was also charged with driving while intoxicated, a class b misdemeanor.
