A high-profile defense attorney from McAllen found himself on the other side of the law after being accused in a harassment case.

Attorney Adolfo Al Alvarez was booked into the Hidalgo County Jail on Tuesday.

The 52-year-old attorney is accused of sending multiple text messages to a man from Alamo.

Alamo Police Department records obtained by Action 4 News that Alvarez sent text messages to the man accusing him of having an affair with his estranged wife.

The records show that both Alvarez and his 34-year-old estranged wife JoAnne Marie Alvarez are legally separated.

The alleged victim in the case told investigators that Alvarez sent him at least 18 text messages since December.

In the messages, Alvarez allegedly told the man that he had also started texting his mother.

The man told police that Alvarez may have even used an app on his cell phone to send text messages from a different number.

Hidalgo County Jail records show that Alvarez was booked on Tuesday and released on a $1,000 dollar personal recognizance bond issued by an Alamo municipal judge.

Alvarez often works as a defense attorney out of McAllen's federal courthouse where he represented such high-profile clients such as former Hidalgo County Commissioner Sylvia Handy.

The McAllen attorney also represented former PSJA board member Raul "Roy" Navarro as well currenlty represents Mission dentist Reynaldo Casares in a Medicaid fraud case involving former Texas State Rep. Tara Ybarra Rios.

Action 4 News called Alvarez on his cell phone and left a message but did not receive a response.
