A San Benito man is headed to prison for the rest of his life.

Jesus Alejandro Rodriguez, 33, was found guilty of capital murder for fatal shooting Alex Villarreal in 2005.

Rodriguez has been sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after serving a 30 year sentence.

That act is an attack on our judicial system, Judge Banales said. I find in all evidence presented that the jury is correct in its verdict. You (Rodriguez) got what you deserved " a life sentence."

In 2005, Villarreal was found in a resaca in San Benito with a gunshot wound to the head. Rodriguez fled to Mexico where he spent six years until being extradited in February 2011.

During the trial, Forensic experts testified that Villarreal had a third gunshot wound indicating it was not a suicide.

Villarreal was a witness to a murder that happened outside of Harlingen's Club NCO back in October 2004.

Villarreal was scheduled to testify against Rene Garcia who was indicted in a 2004 Harlingen night club murder.

According to testimony in court, Rodriguez was hired by Garcia to kidnap, rob, and kill Villarreal.

Garcia is currently serving a 10 year sentence for drugs.

We are very pleased with the verdict and commend the jury on their service and courage in rendering the verdict" said prosecuting attorney Ismael Hinojosa.

The district attorney's office did not seek the death penalty in this case.
