A Houston man is behind bars in the Rio Grande Valley after being accused of raping a girl while camping on the beach on South Padre Island.

Cameron County Precinct 1 deputy constables arrested Jesse Raymond Lopez on an aggravated sexual assault of a child charge on Sunday.

The 36-year-old Houston man is accused in a March 15th incident that happened while he and others were camping on the beach just outside city limits at Andy Bowie Park.

Court records released Wednesday show that Lopez came down with the girl TMs mother from Houston to visit South Padre Island.

The women and girls slept in the bed of the truck while Lopez and the men were in the cab.

During a forensic interview in Houston, the girl told investigators that Lopez got in the bed of the truck with her and sexually assaulted her for at least 30 minutes.

The girl told investigators that she was too scared to make him stop.

Lopez allegedly wanted the girl to go with him down the beach but she refused.

Everyone in the truck woke up and grabbed the girl and the others and put them inside the truck.

The girl's mother said Lopez took off walking.

Lopez appeared before a Cameron County magistrate judge on Monday morning where he was issued a $50,000 bond.

Court records show Lopez is on 10 years probation sentence for a June 2007 marijuana case from Shelby County, Texas.

The records show that Lopez had between 50 to 2,000 pounds of marijuana in the case.
