The Interstate 69 corridor, a project 20 years in the making, is nearing completion.
I-69 makes improvements to 4 existing highways, including 3 that run through the Valley, including US-59, US-77, and US-281.
111 miles across the Valley will now be designated as part of the I-69 system, bringing the estimated total in the state to 197 miles by end of the this year.
The project, which got underway in 1994, will help bring an increase of funding for local roadways.
Already, $742 million in funds have been allocated for I-69 projects across the state since its TM inception.
This morning, Ramiro Garza, Jr., Edinburg TMs City Manager, and RGV Chamber of Commerce CEO Julian Alvarez joined Action 4 Sunrise to discuss the potential impacts for the region and an upcoming ceremony in honor of the project.
