A Honduran immigrant is dead after suffering a stroke while in the cusody of immigration officials.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials confirmed that 50-year-old Lelis Rodriguez died around 5 p.m. Wednesday.
Border Patrol agents arrested the Honduran immigrant after he illegally crossed the border near Hidalgo back on July 16th.
Rodriguez was transferred into ICE custody on July 22nd but suffered a stroke on Tuesday.
Paramedics rushed Rodriguez to the Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen where he was diagnosed with a cerebral hemorrhage.
Rodriguz has no known immediately family in the United States
ICE officials notified state health officials and local law enforcement agencies as well as consular officials from Honduras about Rodriguez's death.
