Illegal immigrants seek help at school after escaping stash house

Authorities are investigating a human smuggling ring after a group of illegal immigrants escaped a stash house and sought help at an elementary school just north of Mission.

It all happened at Paredes Elementary School off North Bentsen Palm Drive just north of Mile 7 North around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Investigators told Action 4 News that 14 immigrants escaped from a nearby stash house and went to the school for help.

The immigrants told investigators that they had been held against their will.

La Joya ISD officials told Action 4 News that authorities were notified but the school was not placed on lockdown and that students and staff were never in danger.

A search is on for the stash house and the men who held the immigrants against their will.
