Isla Blanca Park residents concerned about inability to reserve future RV spots
The Cameron County Parks and Recreation board held a meeting on Friday to discuss Isla Blanca Park improvements with concerned RV owners and Isla Blanca Park residents.
Isla Blanca Park's new improvements will include beach amenities and RV Park renovations, but some residents aren’t on board. The county sent notices to RV site users prior to the meeting, stating their reservations are in jeopardy.
"We cannot guarantee you that there will be any space for anyone," said Chief Legal Counsel Francisco Martinez.
Cameron County Administrator David Garcia said the county isn't taking reservations due to an uncertainty in future construction of the RV spots.
“We, at the county, decided to send out a notice to all those RV site users to make them aware that potentially, possibly next year and maybe the following, we could run into some issues with respect to their RV site location," Garcia said.
Site users are worried that after the RV spots have been reconstructed, they won’t have their previous spot or a spot at all.
RV owners expressed that they don't want to go into a first-come, first-served situation.
"Well obviously, it's going to make a big fight, because of the number of years that people have been in here,” said Isla Blanca Park RV user George Peña. “People have made investments into the park.”
RV owners and Isla Blanca Park residents said they will continue to voice their concerns at the Cameron County Commissioners’ Court meeting on Monday.
