Jealous man hits girlfriend on head with broom over text message
Authorities said Josue Casarez admitted to striking his girlfriend with a broomstick in a jealous rage after she received a text message. The incident happened at an apartment on North Sam Houston Street Saturday night.
San Benito police were called to Harlingen Medical Center where the victim said that she was having dinner with her boyfriend, Casarez earlier that evening.
The victim told police that her cell phone went off and 43-year-old Casarez became jealous.
Casarez then punched the victim in the face and hit her head with a broom stick, making her lose consciousness.
The victim then went to the Harligen Medical Center for treatment.
Police arrested Casarez who was still at the apartment for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a 2nd degree felony.
Judge B. Yudesis arraigned the 43-year-old and set a bond at $20,000.
Casarez is currently at the Cameron County Jail.
