Judge denies bond for former deputy involved in Panama Unit scandal

Former Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office deputy Jorge Garza, found guilty for his role in the Panama Unit scandal, has been denied bond.

According to court records, a bond hearing for Garza was set on Thursday.

During the court hearing, Judge Randy Crane denied the former deputy a bond.

Garza was previously on trial for a week.

The jury handed down the guilty verdict after three hours of deliberation on Tuesday.

The former deputy faces 10 years to life in federal prison.

All the 11 others involved in the Panama Unit scandal are expected to be sentenced on September 10th.

Jorge Garza is scheduled to be sentenced on October 10th.
