Judge denies bond for Quest Academy shooting suspect

A judge has denied bond for a man accused of shooting his estranged wife outside an Edinburg school.

Rodney Villalpando appeared for arraignment before Justice of the Peace Homera Jasso at the Hidalgo County Jail late Thursday morning.

Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office deputies arrested Villalpando for aggravated assault early Wednesday morning.

The 24-year-old man is accused of shooting his estranged wife outside the Quest Academy school in Edinburg.

Investigators said the woman is recovering from a non life-threatening injury to one of her arms.

Villalpando did not appear to have a previous criminal record but investigators believe an ongoing domestic dispute was the motive for the shooting.

The 24-year-old shooting suspect man asked Judge Jasso if he would be able to get a bond since the incident happened early in the morning and no children were there.

But the judge denied the bond due to the location of the shooting adding that could lead to a bigger tradegy if we went back to seek revenge.

Judge Jasso issued an emergency protective order against Villalpando for his wife and children.
