A Cameron County jury returned with the strongest verdict possible against a man accused of sexually abusing a Harlingen girl.
Francisco Matamoros appeared before the 357th State District Court for sentencing on Monday evening.
The jury found the 43-year-old man guilty on Friday of continuous sexual abuse of a child and two counts of sexual assault of a child.
Jurors heard testimony from the victim, who is now 16 years old.
The girl told jurors that the sexual abuse became back in 2007 and continued until his arrest last year.
Jurors sentenced Matamoros to life in prison for continuous sexual abuse of a child and 20 years in prison for each count of sexual assault of a child.
Matamoros was also fined $10,000 for the two counts of sexual assault of a child.
