Jury finds Harlingen man guilty of killing estranged wife, friend

Victim: Sarah Maxwell

After about an hour of deliberations, a jury has found a Harlingen man guilty of killing his estranged wife, her unborn child and her male friend.

Omar Montemayor had been on trial before Judge Migdalia Lopez in the 197th State District for capital murder.

Montemayor is accused of killing his pregnant and estranged wife Sarah Maxwell as well as her friend Devin Haynes back in September 2012.

Closing arguments in the trial wrapped up Friday morning with jurors returning with a verdict after only 45 minutes.

Judge Lopez sentenced Montemayor to life in prison without parole.

He will be taken to the Cameron County Jail where he will await his prison assignment.
