Authorities are investigating how 15 illegal immigrants from China made it to La Joya.
Investigators said the immigrants were discovered inside a suburban with Tamaulipas license plates over the weekend.
La Joya police made the traffic stop and alerted Border Patrol when they found the immigrants inside.
Authorities said the Chinese men and women were crammed in the suburban.
The group appeared sweaty and reported being both hungry and thirsty.
The case remains under investigation but the immigrants were now in federal custody pending immigration proceedings.
Although human smuggling is common in La Joya, police said it was the first time they found Chinese immigrants.
