La Puerta Negra bar shooting suspect, girlfriend face judge

Gabriel Hernandez

A man accused of killing his cousin at shooting two other men at a rural Mercedes bar faced a judge alongside his girlfriend.

Both Gabriel Hernandez and Ana Bertha Salinas appeared before a judge at the Hidalgo County Jail on Monday morning.

Hernandez is accused of killing his cousin Luis Fernando Lara and shooting two more men at the La Puerta Negra bar just outside of Mercedes.

An exact motive is not clear but deputies arrested Salinas after learning that she tried to get rid of the murder weapon.

Hernandez remains in custody under $1.5 million dollars in bonds for murder and attempted capital murder charges.

Salinas is behind bars under a $100,000 dollar bond for a tampering with evidence charge.
