      Las Lomas murder suspect surrenders after brutal stabbing

      The man wanted in a brutal stabbing over the weekend is now in custody and is expected to becharged with murder.

      The Starr County Sheriff TMs Department confirmed Ruben Sanchez, a person of interest in a murder investigation self-surrendered Monday morning.

      The Starr County District Attorney is set to charge Sanchez with murder.

      The 39-year-old man known as "El Llanterro" was seen leaving the crime scene early Sunday morning.

      The murder happened in Las Lomas, a colonia near Rio Grande City.

      Investigators said when they arrived at the scene; they found the victim, Saul Rubalcaba lying face down in a pool of blood.

      A pre-autopsy report showed he died from a stab wound to his chest and a slash wound to his throat.

      Soon after, deputies were on the trail searching for Sanchez, and found his vehicle at Rio Motel abandoned.

      At this time, a motive for the murder is unknown.

      Authorities said Sanchez is being questioned by investigators but remains in custody under a $1 million dollar bond.
