A Cameron County teenager is behind bars after being accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a 12-year-old girl.

Cameron County Sheriff TMs Department deputies arrested 17-year-old Griselda Herrera last week.

The Laureles area teenager is accused of harboring a runaway, enticing a child and two counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child.

Court records show the accusations came to light when the 12-year-old girl ran away from her home near the rural community of Lago.

The 12-year-old girl TMs family got her back home back on April 9th but found hickies on her neck.

The girl told family members that she and Herrera were girlfriends.

When confronted by the 12-year-old girl TMs family, Herrera allegedly paused and then replied, I love her.

      Deputies arrested Herrera last Tuesday.

The 17-year-old suspect remains in custody under $120,000 dollars in bonds issued by Cameron County Magistrate Judge Patricia Edelstein.
