Lightning strikes responsible for small fires in Brownsville

Wed, 21 Aug 2013 12:35:11 GMT — A series of small fires break out in the overnight hours due to lightning strikes from a storm that rolled through Brownsville.The Brownsville Fire Department tells Action 4 News, calls came in at around 4 a.m. regarding palm trees on fire in various parts of town.Fire trucks responded to the 3 separate incidents and were able to extinguish the flames quickly.According to officials, witnesses say they saw lightning in the area just before the fires.In a separate incident, a parked city bus reportedly caught fire at a bus yard located off Iowa St. around the same time.Officials do not have a specific cause as of yet, but are not ruling out lightning.
