Local law enforcement departments to receive rifle-resistant vests from state grant
Gov. Greg Abbott announced Tuesday police departments across the state will receive rifle-resistant vests as part of a $23 million grant.
Nearly 463 police departments across the state will receive the funds, including several law enforcement departments in the Rio Grande Valley.
"We did apply for 11 bulletproof vests," said Los Indios police Chief Jose De La Rosa. "Also, for what is the cover of the vest and the plates inside the vest."
De La Rosa says with Los Indios being so close to the border, there have been multiple occasions where criminal activity from outside the country enters the city. The 11 vests cost about $11,352, according to the office of Gov. Greg Abbott.
