A man is out on bond after he allegedly tried to steal copper wire from his work by wrapping it around his body.
Port of Brownsville police arrested 23-year-old Francisco Alvarado on a state jail felony theft charge early Friday morning.
Investigators told Action 4 News that Alvarez worked as a contractor with AmFels but tried stealing copper wire from work by hiding it under his clothes.
A security guard allegedly saw Alvarez wrapping copper wire around his body and then put on a jacket to conceal the bulkiness.
Officers discovered that Alvarez had stolen about 50 pounds worth of copper worth about $300 as scrap metal.
Alvarez was booked into the Cameron County Jail where he was released after posting a $6,000 bond.
