      Man arrested for attacking woman on popular McAllen trail

      McAllen's Bicentennial Avenue Trail is popular with runners and bicyclists

      A man is behind bars after being accused of attacking a woman on a popular hike & bike trail in McAllen.

      McAllen police arrested 17-year-old Antonio Martinez on a Class C assault charge on Tuesday.

      Martinez is accused of attacking a woman on a bicycle on the 6200 block of North 17th Street on Monday afternoon.

      Investigators told Action 4 News that the teen tried talking to a woman riding a bicycle and then attacked when she tried leaving.

      Full details were not immediately available but police were able to identify Martinez as the suspect.

      Investigators said the 17-year-old was taken into custody off North 10th Street and Cardinal Avenue.

      Martinez remains in custody at the McAllen City Jail where he is waiting to appear before a judge.
