Man caught by 'Fugitive Finder' found guilty of teacher's murder
A murder suspect caught through the Action 4 News 'Fugitive Finder' program faced a jury on Friday morning where he was found guilty of a Sharyland ISD teacher's death.
After several hours of deliberations spanning three days, jurors found 34-year-old Daniel Gilberto Perez guilty of killing Summer Meland in her north McAllen home back in September 2008.
At this time, the jury is deciding on his punishment.
Perez is accused of shooting Meland in the face inside her Yucca Street home.
Prosecutors argued the reason was that Meland was planning on leaving him, after the two had an extramarital relationship which spawned a child.
Perez fled the Mexico but was arrested following a report that aired on the Action 4 News 'Fugitive Finder' program.
Mexican officials extradited Perez back to the United States back on December 2009.
Action 4 News will post more information as it become available.
