Man dies after car slams into utility pole in Edinburg

An Edinburg man is dead following an early morning accident where his car slammed into a utility pole.

It all happened at the intersection of McColl and Monte Cristo Roads in Edinburg around 1:30 a.m. Friday.

Edinburg police confirmed that 24-year-old David Pea, Jr. died in the accident.

Investigators said Pea was heading west on Monte Cristo Road in a silver Jetta.

Pea arrived at the intersection where he saw a parked vehicle and swerved to the right and hit a utility pole.

Paramedics rushed Pea to the hospital where he later died of internal injuries.

Police believe alcohol may have played a role in the crash but won TMt know until toxicology results come back.
