      Man, ex-wife shot in Brownsville

      A man is dead after shooting his ex-wife and then turning the gun on himself.

      It all happened on the 2400 block of North Minnesota Road just after 11 a.m. Tuesday.

      Brownsville police reported that officers were called to a home for a double shooting.

      Officers arrived at the scene to find a man and a woman injured with gunshot wounds.

      Paramedics rushed to the two to a local hospital for medical treatment.

      Investigators said the 39-year-old Rene Rodriguez died from his injuries but the woman survived.

      Police learned that Rodriguez forced his way into his ex-wife's home and shot in her bathroom.

      But investigators said the woman collapsed after the bullet only grazed her head.

      Thinking his ex-wife was dead, Rodriguez allegedly went the living room where he fatally shot himself in the head.

      Police said the woman survived the attack and was listed in stable condition at the Valley Baptist Medical Center in Brownsville.

      Investigators said the woman was in stabled condition, able to speak and could be released as early on Tuesday night.

      The couple's teenage son was home at the time of the shooting but was not harmed.

      Other children, were at different family members home and did not witness what happened.
