Man found guilty for murders of Winter Texan couple
Tue, 04 Feb 2014 02:30:00 GMT —
A Hidalgo County jury has found a man guilty in the 1988 murders of a Winter Texan couple in Weslaco.
Arturo Almaguer has been on trial before Judge Rose Guerra Reyna in the 206th State District Court.
Almaguer was accused of murdering Evan and Wilda Squires at the Magic Valley RV Park back in 1988.
Prosecutors believe theft was the motive and reported that feces found in the couple's sink placed him at the crime scene.
Almaguer was named as a suspect and arrested in Grand Rapids, Michigan back in November 2012.
Testimony and closing arguments for Almaguer's capital murder trial ended on Monday morning.
Jurors only took three hours to return with a guilty verdict.
Prosecutors are not seeking the death penalty but Almaguer is expected to be sentenced on Tuesday afternoon where he faces up to life in prison.
