Man found guilty of murdering teen with his van
A jury found Javier Francisco Gonzalez guilty of first degree murder.
The verdict was announced at 8 p.m. Thursday.
Gonzalez was on trial for running over his ex-girlfriend's 16-year-old son, Jonathon Ramos.
Hidalgo County Sheriff Deputies responded to a hit and run near Scott Lane Rd and Daniel Rd in South Mission on June 26, 2011.
Witnesses told investigators Gonzalez drove by a house Ramos was staying, taunting him.
Ramos went outside and the two got into an argument that ended after Gonzalez allegedly hit Ramos with his van.
Gonzalez eluded authorities for two years and was finally arrested as he attempted to cross from Mexico into the United States in July.
Ramos TMs cousin, Adrian Salinas who witnessed the incident, took the stand.
He told jurors Gonzalez hit Ramos with his van causing him to be flung several feet.
The van flipped over but landed back on the tires then sped away.
Ramos was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
I don TMt think it was manslaughter, Ramos TMs uncle Jose Rosales said. He didn TMt have to go back the way he came in, but he chose to go back that way and run my nephew over.
The victim TMs mother also gave an emotional testimony where she described her abusive relationship with Gonzalez.
Gonzalez was found guilty of first degree murder.
