A jury has sentenced a 55-year-old man to six years in prison for running over a Port Isabel woman in a DWI accident.

Alejandro Bernal Petricioli appeared for sentencing before a jury in the 404th State District Court on Monday morning.

The jury had found Petricioli guilty of intoxication manslaughter on Friday.

Prosecutors reported that Petricioli ran over and killed 44-year-old Reyna Hernandez Garcia in Port Isabel back in November 2009.

Garcia was walking to work along Highway 100 when she was hit.

Petricioli initially told police he thought he ran over a rock or something and later said, she must have gotten in his way.

Investigators reported that Petricioli appeared intoxicated, while blood tests revealed a blood alcohol level of .10.

The legal alcohol limit is .08 in the State of Texas.

Petricioli was supposed to appear in court back in 2010 but skipped bond and spent two years as a fugitive.

With two previous convictions, Petricioli later turned himself in and was taken into custody with no bond.
