A man has been sentenced to life in prison for the 1988 murders of a Winter Texan couple in Weslaco.

Arturo Almaguer has been on trial before Judge Rose Guerra Reyna in the 206th State District Court.

Almaguer was accused of murdering Evan and Wilda Squires at the Magic Valley RV Park back in 1988.

Prosecutors reported that feces found in the couple's sink placed him at the scene of the botched burglary.

Almaguer was arrested in an unrelated crime Grand Rapids, Michigan back in November 2012.

A DNA sample taken from that arrest matched him to the murder in Weslaco.

Testimony and closing arguments for Almaguer's capital murder trial ended on Monday morning.

Jurors only took three hours to return with a guilty verdict.

Almaguer was sentenced to life in prison early Tuesday afternoon.
