A Brownsville man is behind bars after he allegedly tried to kidnap a teenage girl and force her into his white van.
Brownsville police arrested 59-year-old Jose Alejandro Camero-Rivera on multiple criminal charges late Saturday night.
Investigators told Action 4 News that it all happened at Gonzales Park just north of the UTB campus around 10:25 p.m. Saturday.
A 14-year-old girl ran to police officers for help after Camero-Rivera allegedly tried to take her in his white van.
Officers spotted the van off nearby Carolina Street but it didn't stop until it was on Elena Street.
Camero-Rivera allegedly refused to step outside of the van prompting officer to remove him.
Investigators charged the 59-year-old man with attempted kidnapping, evading arrest in a motor vehicle and resisting arrest.
It's not clear of Camero-Rivera knew the 14-year-old girl but the case remains under investigation.
Court records shows that Camero-Rivera had a criminal history involving DWI and driving with an invalid license.
The records show he lived on Dana Street just a few blocks away from the park.
Camero-Rivera remains in custody at the Cameron County Jail under $57,500 dollars in bonds.
