Man is behind bars after robbing a bank in Harlingen

A man is behind bars minutes after he allegedly robbed a bank in downtown Harlingen.

It all happened at the Bank Of America off North 3rd Street and East Harrison Avenue just after 1 p.m. Monday.

Authorities told Action 4 News that Joe Wayne Galipp gave a bank employee a note that said, Give me all the money you have and no one will get hurt.

The suspect fled the scene on foot.

Harlingen police reported that officers caught the 49-year-old suspect after he threw some clothing in a nearby dumpster.

Galipp reportedly robbed more than $8,000.

Authorities charged Galipp with Robbery, a second degree felony.

According to authorities, the bank is federally insured and the FBI could lead an investigation.
