Man jailed after leading police on chase with carload of immigrants

      A man is facing several criminal charges after leading police on a chase in a car filled with illegal immigrants.

      La Joya police arrested 21-year-old Victor David Alcocer over the weekend.

      Chief Julian Gutierrez told Action 4 News that Alcocer refused to pull over for a traffic violation on Highway 83.

      Alcocer lead police on a chase that ended off Leo and 11th Streets.

      Investigators learned that Alcocer had 15 illegal immigrants from Central American as passengers.

      Police also allegedly found a package of synthetic marijuana inside his car.

      Authorities charged Alcocer with evading arrest, human smuggling and possession of a controlled substance charges.

      Alcocer was booked into the Hidalgo County jail on Thursday under $20,000 in bonds.
