Man jailed for lying about being carjacking victim
A man who reported his truck stolen during a carjacking near Mission is now behind bars for making a false report.
Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Trevino says the man, who will not be named until after his arraignment, reported his truck stolen just after 6 p.m. Saturday.
The man made the report one week after the truck was reportedly stolen off A Street and Mile 6 North.
But deputies discovered that the man had recently bought the truck and failed to make a payment on the vehicle.
Sheriff Trevio said it was the owners who took the truck back in a repossession action.
The man was arrested for making a false report and is now at the Hidalgo County Jail.
