Man pleads guilty to sexually abusing Harlingen girl

A Harlingen man is now awaiting sentencing after pleaded guilty to sexually abusing a little girl.

Luis Chairez appeared before Judge Arturo Cisneros Nelson in the 138th State District Court on Monday.

Chairez was supposed to go to trial ended up pleading guilty to aggravated sexual assault of a child and indecency with a child by exposure.

Judge Nelson ordered the sentencing for Chairez for September 16th.

Chairez faces five to 99 years in prison for aggravated sexual assault of a child charge and two to 10 years in prison for the indecency with a child by exposure charge.

Cameron County Sheriff's Department deputies originally arrested Chairez back in March 2013.

The girl's mother told deputies that Chairez raped her then-8-year-old daughter but had denied the allegations when she confronted him.

Chairez remains in custody in the Cameron County Jail.
