A Mercedes man is dead after a police officer used deadly force against him when he was uncooperative, according to the Mercedes Police Department.
The incident happened on the 100 block of North Street in Mercedes.
Police responded to the domestic disturbance call after the 34-year-old male was allegedly threatening his family.
The Mercedes Police Department said the officer witnessed the suspect being uncooperative and when they attempted to arrest him, the suspect took out a weapon.
The officer shot the man once after he sensed imminent danger, according to a press release sent by Chief Olga Maldonado with the Mercedes Police Department.
The man was taken to Knapp Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Authorities are not yet releasing the name of the officer involved or the suspect shot.
An outside agency will be investigating the incident, and the officer has been placed on leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
The family contacted Action 4 news after reading this story.
They told us "he was shot directly in the heart according to police".
"It was a lethal wound" the man's family said.
On Sunday night, a small candlelight vigil was held for the 34-year-old.
The Texas Rangers are said to be investigating this case.
