A former employee of a Valley Baptist Medical Center (VBMC) doctor is behind bars for fraud.
Jose Pillar Villanueva allegedly committed fraud while working for a VBMC doctor by picking up prescriptions that were never authorized.
It all happened when Villanueva had a woman working for the doctor place call-in orders at multiple pharmacies throughout Cameron County.
Villanueva had unauthorized Xanax and hyrdocodone under his name.
As a result, felony warrants were issued for Villanueva TMs arrest.
After conducting video surveillance on his resident at the 3000 block of Vista Verde Circle in Harlingen, authorities were able to identify him.
Once they arrived at the home, they noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming from his residence.
He was booked at the Cameron County Jail for three counts of fraud and possession of marijuana.
Fraud is considered a third degree felony and if convicted Villanueva could face up to 10 years behind bars.
His bond for all charges was set at $30,500.
