A normally quiet area near Alton was buzzing with activity late Tuesday evening.
A manhunt was launched by the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Department after a gunman shot four people behind a horse stable on La Homa Road near Mile 10.
There were no demands by the gunman, said Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Trevio.
There was nothing was said. He just started shooting.
The suspect fired eight to 10 shots, killing one man, and hitting another man in the face.
Two women were also wounded along with a child less than 2 years of age, who was grazed by a bullet.
All four remain hospitalized today.
"There was a small informal gathering in back of these horse stables, said Trevio.
We believe one individual jumped the fence, walks up to the group and starts shooting indiscriminately.
We have one shooter but we believe there TMs two individuals involved.
Hidalgo County Sheriff's Department and other law enforcement agencies, including Border Patrol, Department of Public Safety, Mission Police and The Department of Homeland Security began tracking the two suspects.
Witnesses say they ran into a nearby orchard.
K-9 units and helicopters assisted in scouring the area.
It's an active investigation and that's really all the information we can provide, added Sheriff Trevio.
Investigators have not identified a motive or said what type of gun was used in the shooting.
Details, such as the names of the victims, are not being released at this time.
The two suspects are considered armed and dangerous.
