Authorities conducted a massive search after receiving reports that there were at least 100 illegal immigrants and smugglers armed with weapons in north McAllen.
It all happened in in a brushy area off North 10th Street and Sprague Avenue just after 1 p.m. Thursday.
According to initial reports, there were more than 100 illegal immigrants hiding in the brush and smugglers armed with AK-47 assault rifles.
Border Patrol agents and McAllen police are both are the scene while a Customs and Border Protection (CBP) helicopter is in the skies.
Investigators confirmed that 81 illegal immigrants staying in "huts" were taken into custody but none of them appeared to be smugglers.
Border Patrol agents reported finding a BB gun that resembled a rifle at the scene.
Authorities are still searching for the smugglers responsible for the camp.
