McAllen continues to investigate accident that killed teen girl

A16-year-old McAllen High School student was hit and killed by the driver of a maroon Ford Focus just before 7 a.m. on Friday.
McAllen police said the 16-year-old was on her way to school when the accident happened.
Those who live on Harvey Street, located just three blocks from McAllen High School, told Action 4 News it was just a matter of time before something like this happened.
"It's just all the time....they're always speeding. There are always going fast."
McAllen police have not released many details surrounding this accident. They told Action 4 News the driver of the Focus did stop and is cooperating with the investigation.
The name of the teen has not been released.
Statement from McAllen Independent School District regarding passing of student:
"We were saddened to learn of the passing of one of our students from McAllen High School early this morning. The student was involved in a traffic accident about three blocks from the campus before school began.
We extend our heartfelt sympathy to her family. Grief counselors have been made available at the school to offer comfort and support to students. A letter to parents will be sent home this afternoon.
We are encouraging parents to be especially sensitive and prepared to offer support to their child during this time.
Anyone with concerns is welcome to a school counselor or member of the administrative staff."
