McAllen man gets 16 years in prison for smuggling meth

A South Texas man has been sentenced to nearly 16 years in prison for trying to smuggle about 65 pounds of methamphetamine from Mexico to Georgia.

A federal judge in Corpus Christi on Thursday sentenced 28-year-old Rolando Reyna of McAllen.

Reyna pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.

Last November's bust at the Border Patrol check point in Sarita involved more than 40 bundles of meth hidden in a pickup truck.

Federal drug agents say it was largest single seizure of methamphetamine within the Corpus Christi division in the last five years.

Reyna told investigators he picked up the methamphetamine in Guadalajara, Mexico, and was transporting the load to Atlanta.
