Authorities have started draining a canal to search for the body of a missing 7-year-old boy in McAllen.
John Perri went missing after falling into the canal off Mile 5 North while playing tag with other children on Wednesday evening.
Perri TMs father jumped in to try and save him, but the current took the child.
The father was getting sucked into the current as well, but was able to get out safely.
Authorities conducted an intense search for the boy on Wednesday evening.
But on Thursday morning, authorities said they are draining the canal to search for the boy's body.
McAllen Fire Chief Rafael Balderas told Action 4 News they are moving the search north towards Highway 107.
