A McAllen police officer found himself on the other side of the law after being arrested for DWI over the weekend.
Sullivan City police arrested 47-year-old Emilio Gonzalez on for driving while intoxicated early Saturday morning.
Investigators told Action 4 News that Gonzalez was stopped for speeding off Expressway 83 and FM 886 around 2:15 a.m. Saturday.
The arresting officer reported that Gonzalez was coming from Rio Grande City but was going 54 mph in a 45 mph zone.
The officer reported that Gonzalez smelled like alcohol and gave him a field sobriety test.
Gonzalez was taken to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) substation in Palmview where he refused a breathalyzer.
The McAllen police officer spent the night in jail until he was seen by a judge around 5 p.m. Sunday.
Gonzalez was taken to the Hidalgo County Jail where he was released after signing a personal recognizance bond.
The McAllen Police Department has not issued a statement about Gonzalez or his employment status following the incident.
