Waiting in line may soon be a thing of the past at the Mexican Consulate's Office in Brownsville.
Administrators told Action 4 News that those wishing to get Mexican passports or other services will soon be able to set an appointment through a new telephone service.
Walk-in visitors are still welcome but the consulate has set up a toll-free number to schedule appointments between noon to 2 p.m. each day.
The MEXITEL appointment system is a FREE service that will be available 24 hours a day.
The number is (877) MEXITEL or (877) 639-4835.
Outgoing Consul Victor Manuel Trevio-Escudero told Action 4 News that the change starts May 17th for the Brownsville office.
Mexico TMs Foreign Ministry (SRE) has reassigned Trevio-Escudero to oversee the Mexican Consulate in Phoenix.
Trevio-Escudero said the telephone appointment system is one of his final acts to improve services at the Brownsville consulate.
