Mexican man attempts to smuggle more than 133 pounds of marijuana into U.S.
Officers seized more than 133 pounds of marijuana at the Gateway International Bridge on Friday, according to a news release from U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
The seizure occurred after a 23-year-old Mexican citizen applied for entry into the U.S.
After a K-9 alerted to the vehicle—a 1999 Ford Ranger—officers referred the man from Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico to secondary inspection. Officers then found 20 packages of alleged marijuana—totaling 133.78 pounds—hidden within the Ford Ranger.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection estimate the value of the seizure at approximately $26, 755, the news release states.
Brownsville Port Director Petra Horne stated in the news release:
“Every seizure is important when it comes to securing our borders. I congratulate our officers for their dedication to the mission of CBP.”
