Middle school student charged after bringing gun to school
A 13-year-old boy is facing felony charges after he confessed to taking a gun to school.
On Monday, a parent alerted school police after her son came home from Dr. Javier Saenz Middle School in La Joya talking about a gun he'd seen at school.
La Joya ISD Police Chief Raul Gonzalez told Action 4 News the police department went to the home of the 7th grader in question to investigate only to learn he in fact took the gun to school on Monday.
The 13-year-old 7th grader from Saenz Middle School was arrested on felony charges and taken to the Hidalgo County Juvenile Detention Center.
"The motive is he wanted to meet up with the second student after school and sell the gun in the community" said Chief Gonzalez.
A detention hearing will be held within the next week or so to determine if the teen will remain behind bars.
This investigation is ongoing.
