Mini-crime spree ends with foot chase in San Benito

Adrian Leeroy Mendieta

A man is behind bars in San Benito after attempting to break into occupied motel rooms while guests were staying inside.

San Benito police arresed the Los Fresnos resident, Adrian Leeroy Mendieta, on multiple charges early Sunday morning.

Investigators told Action 4 News that Mendieta was seen attempting to break into Super 8 motel rooms at around 3:15 a.m. Sunday.

Mendieta allegedly took off on foot when police arrived at the motel.

Police were then called to investigate a suspicious man at the U.S. Department of Agriculture office across the highway.

Once again, Mendieta allegedly escaped to a wooded area.

Police searched the wooded area and found Mendieta after a few minutes.

He allegedly resisted arrest, but police officers arrested him and he was booked at the city jail.

Mendieta is charged with two counts of criminal trespass, evading arrest or detention on foot and resisting arrest.

His bond is set at $6,000.
