Mission man jailed in pot, drug cash case

      A Mission man is behind bars in North Carolina after allegedly transporting a half-ton of marijuana and $1.1 million dollars in cash.

      Deputies with the Buncombe/Henderson County Joint Highway Interdiction Team arrested arrested Jose Alfrado Flores and Andrew Curtis Vanover last week.

      Investigators told Action 4 News that they pulled the two over in a traffic stop off Interstate 26 in Buncombe County.

      Deputies said they found 1,089 pounds of marijuana and $1.1 million dollars in cash inside their vehicle.

      Investigators say Flores is from Mission while Vanover is from Kentucky.

      Authorities believe the marijuana has a street value of $2.5 million dollars.

      Henderson County Sheriff's Office deputies said it's the largest narcotics-related cash seizure in the history of western part of North Carolina.

      Both men remain jailed under $1 million dollar bonds under marijuana trafficking and maintaing a vehicle for the purpose of a controlled substance charges.
