Mission man nearly kills wife with car

A Mission woman is fighting for her life after nearly being killed by her husband.

Mario Alberto Diaz, 19, has been charged with aggravated assault after he ran over his wife Thursday.

Mission Police tell Action 4 News the couple was arguing on River Oak Avenue Thursday morning.

That's when Diaz jumped in the driver TMs seat with the couple's baby in the back of the vehicle. In an attempt to get the child out of the car, the woman tried to get into the vehicle but Diaz drove forward - throwing his wife out of the car, causing a severe head injury.

As of Monday afternoon, she was still in the ICU on life support and under a medically-induced coma.

If she doesn't survive, Mission police said Diaz will face charges of criminally negligent homicide.

Diaz remains in custody under a $1 million bond.

Investigators tell Action 4 that the couple's child is in the care of family members at this time.
