Mission police officer arrested for domestic violence

Adelio Lopez // Rio Grande City Police Department

A Mission police officer found himself on the other side of the law after getting arrested for domestic violence in Starr County.

Rio Grande City police said 38-year-old Adelio Lopez surrendered just before 1 p.m. Thursday.

Investigators said Lopez was wanted for an assault causing bodily injury charge.

Police said the Mission police officer assaulted his wife at a Stripes convenience store off U.S. Highway 83 and FM 3167 back on July 13th.

The woman filed a police report and a warrant was issued for Lopez's arrest.

Police said surveillance video inside the store shows Lopez twisting her arm.

The woman told police it was not the first time Lopez has beat her up but she never reported it before.

Investigators said the Mission Police Department has been notified about Lopez's arrest.
